Dr. Jakovs “Jascha” Borodeckis is a classically trained violinist, pianist, and instructor. Originally from the Baltic shores of Latvia, he earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, Austria, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Maryland, USA. He also completed specialized training in Baroque violin at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music.
After teaching at the International School of Music in Bethesda and maintaining a private studio on Capitol Hill, Dr. Borodeckis has transitioned his focus toward contemporary and atmospheric piano music. He is currently studying composition at the Vienna Music Institute of Contemporary Music. His distinguished mentors include Prof. Yair Kless, Prof. Ida Bieler, and Dr. Irina Muresanu.
During his tenure in the United States, he was supported by Saint Anselm's Abbey in Washington D.C., where he led a dedicated concert cycle. In Austria, he was mentored and sponsored by Dr. Günther Ziesel. Dr. Borodeckis is also active in charitable endeavors, such as the Adelana Project in Botswana and volunteering with the youth support organization "Sindbad" in Vienna. His 2026 season centers on the interdisciplinary project “Metamorphosis,” featuring performances and recordings in Austria and Cyprus. Dr. Borodeckis performs on a 1756 violin from Lübeck, Germany
